The best way to treat your cataract is to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a new, clear artificial lens. This can be accomplished, in most cases, by a procedure known as Phacoemulsification. This is the latest advance in cataract removal. Phacoemulsification is safer and more effective than other conventional methods used to remove cataract.

In Phaco surgery, a small ultrasound probe is inserted into the eye. This probe breaks (emulsifies) the cloudy lens into tiny pieces and gently sucks these pieces out of the eye. Phaco requires a really small incision to remove the lens. This result’s in very fast healing and vision recovery.
In extraordinary circumstances, for example when the cataract surgery has been delayed and the lens has become very hard, your doctor may choose an alternative technique, such as ECCE (Extra Capsular Cataract Surgery) or SICS (Small Incision Cataract Surgery). |
